Letter from the Secretary-General

Dear delegates, staff and partners,

It is my great honour to welcome you to Vanier College’s Model United Nations Conference of 2026. My name is Giovanna-Catalina Silva and I am delighted to serve as the Secretary General of this year’s iteration of VCMUN. On behalf of the secretariat I would like to thank everyone who has made this conference possible. Whether it be by participating as a delegate, helping our vision come to life as a staffer, or supporting VCMUN as a partner, it is thanks to you that this conference has become a reality.

This year, we are eager to explore the notion of justice during our conference through our wonderful committees. From our GA, which encourages delegates to debate and discuss justice for children on an international scale, to our Cops and Robbers Joint Crisis Committee, which takes a deeper look into the reality of justice in day-to-day life, I am excited to see how the topic is tackled throughout the weekend.

I speak for the entire Secretariat when I say we are committed to ensuring VCMUN is a welcoming and enjoyable environment for every delegate and staffer in every committee. Our goal is for VCMUN to be a meaningful experience in the lives of the leaders, advocates, and changemakers of the future.
Finally, we are thrilled to announce that for the first time this year VCMUN will be operating on a three day schedule. We hope this change allows for more diplomatic dialogue, engagement with the pertinent topics presented, and for many more unforgettable memories to be made.

Looking forward to meeting you all,
Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge that the place in which we are gathered is situated within the traditional unceded lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) peoples, part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. There is also a strong historic presence of Anishinaabe peoples in what is now known as the Greater Montreal area. Tio’tia:ke, or Montreal, has also long been, and continues to be, a gathering place for many First Peoples. We honour and thank the traditional custodians of this land, as well as the land itself and all the beings that contribute to our common survival.
