The "Sit-Down"

Crisis
Description

During the fall-out of the Great Depression in the 1930s, the Casa Nostra had multiple disagreements, in part, due to Prohibition following World War I. Consequently, the high-ranking members of the most prominent organized-crime network in the 20th century were overthrown. A bloody and merciless conflict between the five major Sicilian Mafia families in New York ensued: the Castellammarese War. Through this war, predominantly between the Maranzano and Masseria mobster families, the underground system underwent massive changes at the social and judicial level; this dispute also caused a reorganization of the power dynamics between the different generations of mafiosos.
